Seniors have no tax write offs, even if they are under poverty, the tax man still takes a chunk. So, increasing pensions, would just mean the government, will claw the increase back for income tax. Even the CRA targets seniors, they are too old and afraid to fight back. There are thousands and thousands of cases in dispute with the CRA. The man I spoke to said, there is going to be a petition, to get rid of the CRA. Taxes, have got so complicated, the staff can't keep up with the complexity, and, often give people the wrong information. However, they lie and deny, and threaten seniors. One lady showed me the letter she got from the CRA. They threatened to seize her house, the contents and garnishee her pension. She was forced to sell her car, and household goods, to pay for the, CRA's mistake. This has got too typical of the CRA. There has also been, corruption in their ranks. If the HST, can be a percentage, there is no reason why, income tax can't come off, pension checks, and wage earners payroll. All they need, some CRA, to keep the white collar people and big business, honest. The government approves of the CRA rip offs, and have not done a lick, to stop this injustice to seniors.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7141615629701321642.post-25016326708714060252009-09-24T05:04:35.627-04:002009-09-24T05:04:35.627-04:00Reason number four -- gov`t interference has led t...Reason number four -- gov`t interference has led to a severe decline in senior`s investment income & therefore their standard of living.

The case in point is the 31.5% increase in the tax on trust income which is a direct decrease of 31.5% in seniors disposable cash.

I have been told by my Conservative MP that they are looking for ways to help seniors to have more cash to spend.

Perhaps grandfathering the existing trusts at the time of the imposition of the tax might have been the logical solution.

Of course , to even make this necessary , that would entail that the premise that the reason for the trust tax , ie tax leakage , was even correct in the first place.

I guess if the only reasoning needed is contained in the form of 18 pages of blacked-out calculations , then they didn`t really care about seniors in the first place.

Let`s face it , a politician`s first love is big business & the seniors & the rest of the little guys get the scraps.

Dr Mike PopovichDr Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16915911929286615081noreply@blogger.com
