Speaker Milliken’s ruling requires that Flaherty’s proof of tax leakage be made public

Speaker Milliken has ruled today that Parliament has the unfettered right to documents that it has requested from the government of the day. Flaherty’s proof of tax leakage was requested by the Finance Committee dating from February 2007 as follows. I call upon the Official Opposition to see to it that this information is made public to Canadians, now that Speaker Milliken has ruled on Parliament’s right to information requested of the Government:

Report of the Standing Committee on Finance

February 2007

39th PARLIAMENT, 1st SESSION

RECOMMENDATION 1:

It is imperative that a democratic government be as transparent as possible when levying a new tax so that it can be held to account by its citizens. The Committee, therefore, recommends that the federal government release the data and methodology it
used to estimate the amount of federal tax revenue loss caused by the income trust sector.

Exactly. In fact Parliament would have saved Canada from much grieve if the Honourable gutless MPs had demanded full disclosure of the proof of tax leakage.

I believe that Harper decided "I screwed the Finance Committee, and so I can crew Parliament."

At long last , someone with cojones --way to go Peter M.

This whole thing should have been a no-brainer right from the issuance & recall of the trust documents as the stench of rotten maneuvering was in the air above Ottawa.

The trust mess was just the beginning which culminated in the Afghan documents.

It is against the tenants of democratic government to hide information from it`s citizens.

We hire them so we deserve better ---maybe now.

OK, so tell me what will the next CON stall tactic be? I am sure there is a new one waiting in the wings, freshly minted and ready to hit the presses. So lets not get too excited here. When you are dealing with habitual liars and cheats, do you think the ruling of Speaker of the House will bring about change. I doubt it.

Hey Bruce

It will be one thing to let some hand-picked MPs take a boo at these things but it will be a cold day in hell before any of us see this stuff.

Sure some MPs will see the info but what will they be able to reveal to the general public.

The Cons will make it their mission to be the protectors of the troops making any thing nasty that these guys see "not for public consumption".

I appreciate Milliken making his ruling (although on second look not as good as I had thought earlier because of all the loopholes) but the proof is in the pudding & I fear we will never get a real taste.

this Government is real handy with the black marker, the most expensive marker to date.
$35B.

Thank you Peter Milliken.

Wasn't the original document only 23 pages?

Clarification from anyone on the 18 blacked out pages of a 23 page document, is appreciated.

This would actually take some ACTION on the part of the Liberals. However, they don't care about the income trust file.

I beg to differ Railhound. How can the liberals get anywhere when his own supporters keep knifing him in the back? You want to get those deceitful cons out, try and support the liberals; you know the one Brent ran for in the last election. Yep he lost too.

I lost money too but I am not so naive to run the opposition party down at every turn. How can we expect changes when we all act like a bunch of toddlers accusing them all the time. I remember quite well how they tried to have the cons redact the rule? Keep it up and you may see a majority government by the Harper clan which you all aiding him instead of working to defeat them.

If you think the income trust was bad, wait until you see what else this lunatic PM will do to all Canadians if he is not defeated. We need to grow up and stop this madness.
