Harper displays his hypocrisy on Fox News

Harper on Fox News today: “As a Conservative, I oppose raising taxes at the best of times, but we have not got the structural budgetary deficit that exists in the United States, that obviously limits the [Obama] administration’s options."

This is in obvious reference to Obama’s roll back of Bush’s tax cuts for those earning more than $250,000.

Evidently Harper has forgotten that he rolled backed Paul Martin’s tax cuts immediately upon taking office…..for the lowest wage earners in Canada.

What a hypocrite, this Harper is. Complete revisionist historian and deceitful to his very shallow core.

Meanwhile Harper's claim that he hasn't created a structural deficit is bit hard to reconcile with the fact that our $85 billion of budgetary deficit will only buy us $40 billion of stimulus. What is the other $45 billion shortfall, if not structural deficit?

I don`t know about the rest of you guys but I am finding that politicians in general are either out of touch with reality or are just snow-job fabricators of the ultimate kind.

I suspect the latter to be true with vile exceptions like Mr Jim Flaherty who has not had a reality based thought in several years--maybe if he was a trained economist like his boss he would be on the "in".

The snow job is always predicated by a snappy statement such as "tax fairness" or "strong as the Canadian shield"--this is followed closely by the obligatory media kowtow , an indication of the strange bedfellows that they have become.

What would be wrong with just asking the Canadian people what we want for a change--I guess the problem with this is that the gov`t would actually have to trust us with the truth to allow us to make informed choices.

Like that is ever going to happen.

Dr Mike.

Revisionism has been highly prevalent recently with the Cons - more & more & more. Especially after Obama was elected. I, for one, am sick of it. What stuns me is how many people buy it.

The revisionism goes back beyond the time of Obama's election. It has been a part of the Reform-a-Tories' "way of being" since they were created.

A lot of (Westerners particularly) had issue with Trudeau or Chretien, but they couldn't point out denial of history as a fault of these politicians. What the current brand of Conservatives are doing is going back in time (in their minds) and recreating historical facts - blatantly f'n lying. This is not some "go-back" on a minor election promise... which can be construed as a "lie". This is completely lying about things already established as FACTS.

What the Conservatives are relying on is the dearth of political knowledge amongst "average" citizens. There is also some element of "making it up as they go along"...

A terrible shame that people can outright lie about historical facts... not some pie in the sky "promises" (which all politicians fudge from time to time)... but pure historical facts... Sad - for Canada and Canadians.

Oh yeah... and you've also captured Harper's "trust me, I'm a nice guy... seriously, I'm not lying (bullshit)" look... You know... the puckered face, appearing to strain at every word, and almost seeming to smirk while he spits out the lies... It's the EXACT look you have captured in the Fox image...

Funny he goes running to his "journalistic" heroes again, isn't it? These Cons just love Fox... (even though Fox jokes about our soldiers, and even though Fox eviscerated Harper Sunday)...
