OTTAWA — The Conservative MP who said native people need to learn the value of hard work more than they need residential schools compensation has apologized.

Pierre Poilievre rose in the House of Commons on Thursday to say his comments were hurtful and wrong.

"Yesterday on a day when the House and all Canadians were celebrating a new beginning, I made remarks that were hurtful and wrong," he said.

“I accept responsibility for them and I apologize.”

Mr. Poilievre questioned the value of residential schools compensation on an Ottawa radio show just hours before the prime minister apologized Wednesday for racist policies.

"Along with this apology comes another four billion dollars in compensation for those who partook in the residential schools," he said, adding dramatic emphasis to the $4-billion, during an appearance on CFRA Radio just before the apology.

"Some of us are starting to ask, are we really getting value for all of this money and is money really going to solve the problem?"

Last night, Mr. Poilievre issued a statement about his comments.

"I stated that aboriginals deserve protection under Canada's human-rights laws and that the record dollars that the government is spending on aboriginals should reach the people in need," the e-mailed statement said.

The Liberal opposition said the remarks were shocking and called for his resignation.

The Prime Minister rebuffed those calls and said Mr. Poilievre has also apologized to national aboriginal groups.

What "work "has this Poilievre guy ever done, apart from being a piece of work himself?

He should get together with that other gay bashing CON MP from Saskatchewan and form "Apologists Anonymous"

What was that other loser MP's name from Saskatchewan that Harper dragged in his net?

So this is one of the up & coming young guns of the Conservative Party----touted for the top---great aspirations.

Perhaps he & the party have delusions of grandeur because this guy ain`t a goin nowhere anytime soon.

This guy is clueless.

He not only offended the aboriginal Canadian Nation yesterday on one of their most important days in recent history , but he has bashed people who undergo sex-change operations in Ontario & was instrumental in making the Cons look foolish on the in & out file.

If this guy is an example of their future , I can almost guarantee you that this party is a "OneTerm Wonder" & nothing more.

Pierre Poilievre's ("Little Pee Pee") apology rings hollow. He stated what the true angry Reformer view of our First Peoples is.

Little Pee Pee should be swatted out of caucus... and would be if he was a Liberal or NDipper...

Finally, this glib-tongued mama's boy talked his way into his own noose and hanged himself. This proves more than ever that the CON Party is completely red-necked and devoid of a soul!

This Poilievre clown is worried about getting "value for money". Isn't that Flaherty's line about paying his buddy MacPhie $320,000 to write a copule of speechs without going through a government tender?

Meanwhile, this Poilievre clown has single handedly assure that we don't get "value for money" by insulting the very people who the money was intended to compensate.

Maybe this Poilievre clown should realize there is something profoundly more valuable in an apology such as this than mere money.....namely respect.

I have as much respect for this Poilievre clown, as he has for Canada's aboriginal community.

Lose the idiot. Lose the whole CON nation.

I would like a value for money analysis of Poilievre's salary. He
has been aggressive, malicious and nasty on more than one occasion,
on more than one issue.

Your comment can apply to most of the Conservative caucus.

I would hate to drive my car anywhere near those guys in fear that they might start to chase cars.
