Prentice confirms "photo op" nature of BCE meeting.

Meeting's all for show, as Prentice won't discuss 2500 laid off BCE workers or actually deal with 15 cent text messaging issue

Prentice Signals No New Text-Message Rules After BCE Meeting

By Theophilos Argitis and Greg Quinn

July 31 (Bloomberg) -- Canadian Industry Minister Jim Prentice indicated he won't impose new regulations on the cost of text messages after he met with executives from BCE Inc. to discuss new fees that he has said may hurt consumers.

Prentice said he wasn't ``hinting'' at new regulations when asked about the subject by reporters today at a meeting of Conservative Party lawmakers in Levis, Quebec.

Prentice said he has met with BCE President George Cope and plans to meet with Telus Corp. to discuss the issue. The minister said he wants the companies to consider alternatives to their plan to start charging wireless customers 15 cents for each text message they receive.

Well done Jim!!

You & your buddy Flaherty should get together more often.

BCE will be gone & all but forgotten & along with it the nearly 800 million in tax it would have paid as a trust.

Who needed all those jobs anyway.

Excellent job guys.

Industry minister holds out threat of regulation to stop new text-message fees

July 31, 2008

LEVIS, Que. — Industry Minister Jim Prentice raised the prospect of federal regulation Thursday in his continuing battle with Canada's biggest telecom companies over new text-message fees.

...

Asked whether the Conservatives shouldn't just permit competitive forces to sort out the cellphone industry's billing practices, Prentice said he's simply responding to popular demand.

"I think we have been taking an approach that is responsive to Canadians, responsive to the concerns that we've heard," he told a questioner.

"We've not taken any heavy-handed steps, to use your term. We thought they were at variance with what consumers expected."

Ya, right Jim A-Prentice.

Where was the CONS' "approach that is responsive to Canadians, responsive to the concerns that we've heard" when in comes to income trusts?

You sure took "heavy-handed steps" with Canadians' and seniors' investments and savings that sure "were at variance with what consumers expected."

As usual, what an ASS and HYPOCRITE!

Mike:

I hear the two Jimmys will be "ringing in" a new 31.5% tax on all text message fees in order to stem their self-created telecom 'tax leakage' of $800 million.

They're just in the process now of "manufacturing" their analysis.

Robert

That is the only "manufacturing" we have left here in Ontario thanks to Jimmy I & Jimmy II.
