Ooops! Here’s another cheque with Harper’s logo all over it

Click on HST bribe cheque to enlarge

The front page of today’s Globe features the unseemliness of Harper’s Conservative Party who are handing out “stimulus” cheques in photo ops emblazoned with the Con party’s logo. How pathetic. Almost as pathetic as the fact that this stimulus money is being handed out in disproportionate amounts to Conservative held ridings.

Another cheque that is emblazoned with Harper’s logo are the $4 billion in borrowed money that is being sent to taxpayers in Ontario and BC as a form of bribe to get them to forget about what the effects that HST will have on their ongoing purchasing power and discretionary income. The HST is something that the Harper government is trying to distance itself from, given the enormous political hot potato that it has and will become.

Well that’s going to be a very difficult story to spin, when one realizes that these HST bribe cheques are being issued by the Government of Canada and not the provinces. This is an instance where the logo on these cheques isn’t quite as friendly to the political aspirations of these Conservative Con artists as perhaps Con MP Gerald Keddy thought handing a $300,000 infrastructure cheque to the residents of Chester Nova Scotia embalzoned with the Con Party logo?

You know the old expression: Live by the logo. Die by the logo.

HST is the rope that Harper has allowed the federal Liberals to hang him by, however HST will probably be another opportunity squandered by them as they place the interests of Dalton McGuinty’s re-election and the interests of corporate windfall profits ahead of the interests of Ontario and BC consumers.

So let me get this straight.

I live in Ontario.

My taxes on several necessities such as hydro , water & heating fuels are going to go up 8% when we harmonize the GST & the PST.

Eventually , out of the goodness of their hearts the tax relief felt by big-business will feed down to me to lower the price of these same goods.

Until this happens , each household is to receive a juicy Cheque for $1000 -- a return of our own tax dollars to tide us over till these businesses give us the price break.

I have an idea , just leave things the way they are , that way no 8% price increase , I don`t have to give myself the $1000 cheque & I don`t have to wait the several years till big-business coughs up the price decrease.

A win for me & no waiting.

PS---don`t wait for any political party to give you a hand-up in this case as the Libs & the Cons have become the oddest of coalitions.

The other G&M headline shows the Cons advancing in the polls and the Liberals declining...how long will it take Iggy and the Libs to connect the dots? They miss opportunity after opportunity.

Perception In Politics

Remember the skinny kid who gets sand kicked in his face, goes home, orders the Atlas body building program, then goes back to the beach buff and tough.
It seems to me the Liberals go home and hide behind mommy,s skirt, stick their heads out periodically and yell - not fair. You,ve had the opportunity to nail Harper on so many lies and pure deceit that it,s mind- boggling. You huff and you puff but don,t have the guts to to nail them on any issues. It looks as though you,re afraid of offending the corporate elite and power players who are the principal culprits in defrauding the public.( income trusts) Perception is everything in politics. The media have given yourselfs the moniker of being weak. The publics opinion is you,re a wishy washy party whose poop doesn,t stink.
You need to get your collective a$$e$ together and start calling a spade a spade. Quit beating around the bush and take a calculated risk and give the public the straight goods for a change. I would think the doors wide open for this opportunity but no one has the guts. You might as well take your little plastic bucket and shovel and go play on the beach by yourselves.

P.S. - I write this letter because i,m a firm Liberal supporter and want in the worse way to see the party regain power, but it,s becoming increasingly difficult to convince my fellow citizens. Thank you, and i wish only good things for the Liberal Party.
