Reality Check: Complaints to Elections Canada

Here are statistics regarding complaints received by Elections Canada in the past five federal general elections:

2000 Federal Election: 382 complaints (Source: Report of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada on the 37th General Election Held on November 27, 2000)

2004 Federal Election:
398 complaints (Source: Report of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada on the 38th General Election Held on June 28, 2004)

2006 Federal Election:
329 complaints (Source: Report of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada on the 39th General Election of January 23, 2006)

2008 Federal Election:
1,392 complaints (Source: Report of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada on the 40th General Election of October 14, 2008)

2011 Federal Election:
31,000 complaints and counting (Source: Statement by Elections Canada, March 2, 2012)

I guess it could have been worse , it could be 32000.

The remaining thousands of complaints have been lodged in the last week I would imagine.
If they can be proved through phone records to be evidence of fraudulent calls, good. But if they turn out to be partisan politics at work it makes all parties look bad.

Hey look on the bright side, when the next person says people aren't engaged in the electoral system?

Mind you it's tough to increase voter turnout when everyone is being sent to the nearest Mac's Convenience
Store to cast their vote. Or was it the one on the opposite side of town?

The Conservative new voting rules comes with its laws.

Show up with a gun claim your a hunter and you can cast your vote. Sounds like the pleasant new world of Steven Harper
