Tonight on the News Hour on PBS, Wall Street Journal columnist David Brooks related a recent interview he had with Stephen Harper during Harper's recent tour of the US media in which David Brooks asked Harper the question: “Where do you see the unemployment rate topping out at?.
Although Harper was referred to by David Brooks in a generic way, as a “head of state”, it was clear from the other qualifiers used by David, that this must have been in reference to Stephen Harper.
Harper’s response according to David was the emphatic “Oh, well over 10%”, as if to boast about the extent of the carnage to come.
Is this another case of the US Conservative media (which David Brooks clearly is) learning the true candid feelings of Stephen Harper and all we get is the thin gruel and political posturing?
Harper needs to let us know whether these comments were his or some other “head of state”?.
Irrespective of that , just exactly where does Harper see unemployment in Canada bottoming out at, and are the terms of Canada’s EI consistent with these robust levels of unemployment?

Canadians never ask a lot of their politicians & that is a fault which needs correcting.
We are complacent & this allows guys like our PM to run roughshod over us like a herd of wild buffalo.
We just get up off of the ground after being trampled the first time & stand there till they run over us again.
The PM seems to be a lot more comfortable speaking with people from another country than he does when he speaks here--he also seems to give them more facts & certainly different facts than we see.
Of course this is the same guy who promised never to tax trusts but still did , so what he has to say may not be believable anyway.

Correction: Harper likes to speak to foreign Conservative media - where he feels completely at home (Fox News, etc., etc.). These guys were mass-writing the CRTC (and the cable companies were helping them, by directing proponents of Fox News to the CRTC site), to get Fox into Canada. I was privy to the tracking info of one media company (I built the tracking interface), and saw how Fox was down the list of requests, but it got much more attention from the company and the Harper-lovin' bosses...
